Spider - Man goes through change , just like every other risible book superhero — people come and go from his life , his condition change , hell , sometimes the intent of his go archnemesistakes over his body for a bit like it ’s no big deal . But Peter ’s latest duty period in the status quo might be a welcome one for many .
This week saw a new era of Amazing Spider - Man begin under the auspices of Nick Spencer , Ryan Ottley , Cliff Rathburn , Laura Martin , and Joe Caramagna — with a brand young # 1 . In it , there ’s a lot of change in circumstance for Peter Parker , but they ’re tied together by basically one of the only consistent thing in Pete ’s life : the fact that nothing can go right for him .
In fact , most of Amazing Spider - Man # 1 is about just how far he ’s fallen since his day as a billionaire chief operating officer of his own science company . With Parker Industries gone , he ’s back to sharing an apartment with pestering roommates . A scandal at his honest-to-god alma mater over the degree he find while Otto Octavius had own his organic structure leave to his donnish work being marked as plagiarization , causing a scandal that leads to him losing his current job as the Daily Bugle ’s science editor in chief ( and perhaps regretful of all , disappointment from Aunt May ) . Oh , and on top of that , the Kingpin ’s function as Mayor of New York has seen him lead a campaign to seed variance between Peter and his fellow heroes .
Basically , everything suckle , and Peter can entrust in no one about it , because no one who does n’t know he ’s Spider - Man would ever even think a narration like “ Otto Octavius was dying and thenlived in my body for a bitand thenlived in a robot for a bit and now has his own clon bodyoh god comic books aaaaaah ! ” Except for maybe one person , that is : Mary Jane Watson .
MJ at first provide a well-disposed ear , ribbing Peter for just how comically unfortunate his living can be sometimes . But when Mysterio manages to make half the superheroes in New York consider the city ’s under attack from insectoid aliens , a skirmish with death leads to Peter going back to MJ – and this meter it ’s not as a friend , but as a former boyfriend . And he might be about to set down the “ former ” from that sentence :
Yes , for the first time since the controversial “ One More Day ” plot line in 2007dissolved Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson ’s marriage , and finally part them all together , it seems like one of the most iconic couple in comics is back on . And they said it would n’t chance !
We need to put some vehemence on the seems , however . This is a comical playscript cliffhanger of form , and that just means that we do n’t have the full floor yet . And just because Peter and MJ could become romantically involved again does n’t mean it ’ll eventually end in marriage . And it does n’t mean that the underlying problems that eventually lead to them range apart ( that were n’t related to the literal devil erasing stuff ) , like Peter ’s wild superheroic living , are still going to be there .
MJ might tell Peter that they ’re in it together , but this meter , the course they go on may not quite be the happy and familiar one fans have hanker to see furbish up .
