“ We ’re actually exploring — we’re diving event deep in to skill — in the 4th season , in a form of new and interesting way , ” Kurtzman say , of the capable issue of the fourth season . Which is an interesting idea , weigh how much science is and is n’t the focus of Discovery . While scientific estimation play a persona here , they ’re often pretty out - there ones , and large play and plotting tends to gain the twenty-four hours more often than not . This focus on skill , then , might trifle into the show ’s next villain . Which is n’t what you might expect .

“ There have been many variety of villains over the course of Star Trek . What happens when the scoundrel is not in reality any sort of living , respiration entity , but something else ? How do you solve that problem ? ” Kurtzman say .
What kind of baddie are we talking here ? Time ? Decay ? Mushrooms ? Whatever this new baddie is , it ’s run to pop the question new challenges , both for the futurist Federation and for Burnham .

“ The Federation is come back together but it ’s not fully back together . And so the continued missionary post of bringing other domain in and meeting the criterion and standards of what it means to be a member of the Federation but also not to pluck other cultures of their indistinguishability is something that we ’ll explore , ” Kurtzman said .
And as for Burnham , he bring , “ Burnham has spent a destiny of time thinking she had to be one thing or the other and ended the time of year being rewarded with the senior pilot ’s chairman for being two unlike thing .
