The next addition to the realms of Magic : The Gathering is taking players to the desert oasis of Amonkhet , a sorcerous soil that ’s fundamentally Magic ’s own take on the religious mysticism of Ancient Egypt . Ahead of the 74th elaboration ’s arrival in entrepot later this month , io9 is proud to debut a few of the new identity card and the artistic production behind this new plane of mystery story .
An entirely new setting within Magic ’s huge lore , Amonkhet is a sand - straw nation rule by the planeswalker Nicol Bolas , one of the most potent magic users in Magic ’s vast pantheon of elementary planes . A human beings driven by quests for worthiness , Amonkhet is a realm that hammer intrepid warriors who look to enter the Trials of the Five Gods , a series of tribulation where victory grants you end , and supposedly a cushy place in the afterlife , good manners of Bolas himself .
