Among his former projects , Dan Gilroy , the author and theatre director of Velvet Buzzsaw , thestriking Jake Gyllenhall thriller that will utterly change how you see the art humanity , worked onSuperman Liveswith managing director Tim Burton and manufacturer Jon Peters . After break one’s back over the flick for over a class , it was , unceremoniously , strike down . And in a recent interview withPolygon , Gilroy unwrap what a profound impression that had on him and his career :
So in the ’ 90s , a million years ago , I spend a year and a one-half exercise on Superman living , the most epic walloping of all clock time . I worked on it for a year and a half , and one solar day , a day before shooting , Tim and I and the manufacturer Jon Peters , walked into Warner Bros. offices , and they annunciate they were pull the fire hydrant for economic reason and other grounds . I remember just being devastated . I ’d work for a class and a half . This was going to be a monumental movie for me . I was so excited . It does n’t matter for me right now , because I worked as a writer and I produce as a author , and it particularly does not matter for me move forward , because I have to adopt that this could happen again , and I have to make serenity with the idea that , at a sure level , I ’m influence as a creative slash creative person for myself . I have to find work that ’s relevant to me , so that it transcends what the cosmos thinks of it or if it ever gets seen , if ever . ’
That experience , then , set Gilroy on the vocation path that led him to makingNightcrawlerand , now , Velvet Buzzsaw . He also let on the more literal encroachment that experience had on his new film ’s end :
