Obviously , Avengers : Infinity War is n’t Black Panther 2 , but it will offer fans of the Marvel mega - hit an early look at where Wakanda is at after the coup of Erik Killmonger . That includes T’Challa ’s loyal universal Okoye , played by Danai Gurira , who ’s seen press alongside the Avengers in the trailers for the moving picture — a fight that the leader of the Dora Milaje is n’t ready for .
As we now know from Black Panther , Okoye is ferociously loyal to Wakanda and its throne , so much so she even get going against T’Challa when Killmonger contract over . She was disquieted about open up Wakanda to the humans , and her Riley B King ’s decisiveness . On the set of Infinity War , Gurira excuse that Okoye was n’t prepared to deal with the ramifications of it , and still is n’t .
“ There are other characters who are more ready to do it . She ’s not ready , ” Gurira pronounce . “ The changes that they go through , to the point where they are opening up their border and they are letting people know who they are , is something that she really has to journey through . ”
That Thanos and his foreign army invades Wakanda so soon after the nation opens its borders is essentially Okoye ’s worst - fount scenario . “ She ’s always thinking about how many thing can go wrong , how much she can insure , what could go wrongly before it goes wrong , but there ’s not a destiny of mastery that she can have over something that ’s get that ’s this massive , ” Gurira say . “ That ’s where her caution is . That ’s where her business concern dwell . … Her intact vocation has been to maintain this Carry Nation … [ and ] this is one of the biggest threats they ’ve dealt with . ”
Although Gurira could n’t say what Avengers Okoye would interact with ( the audience took place in June 2017 ) , we know from both the end credits of Captain America : Civil War as well as Black Panther that at the very least Bucky ( Sebastian Stan ) is already in Wakanda , recover from his Hydra brainwashing , when Infinity War begins .
The war with Thanos may be out of her controller , but at the very least Gurira bang Okoye can take care of Bucky if he proves to still have offspring . “ He ’s one guy cable , so he ’s manageable , ” she tell . “ She experience how to disarm that arm . ”
