So yes , “ Threshold ” is a loser of an episode in a lot of way . And yet , the out-and-out outlandish goofiness of its sexual climax has lead to a softening of that loser nearly three decades after . The amphibians are thesource of fan art , of jokes and memes , an earnest embrace that Star Trek can fail but still have a sensation of humor about it . It may never truly agitate its reputation as one of the worst of the series , and of the franchise — but the embrace of its refugee camp and its fatuity means that we ’ve slowly come around to at least admire the potential of “ Threshold ” and its better ideas .
