It’s time to get the band back together!
On Friday,Rachael Leigh CookandTara Reidreunited atAwesome Conin Washington, D.C., to discuss their now-iconic 2000s film,Josie and the Pussycats, 23 years later.
Instead of picking another big-name star, Reid had a different suggestion: “Us!”
“All rock bands get back together again, right? That happens,” Reid, 48, continued as the audience cheered. “I think we should remake it with this cast. That would be super cool!”
Reid added, “Let’s get the campaign going.”
While looking back on the film’s legacy later in the panel, Cook shared her appreciation forJosie and the Pussycats’devoted fanbase helping to maintain its staying power after all these years.
“You guys are a testament that the movie worked all these years later,” she said. “This is all about making that movie. So, thank you!”

PEOPLE broke the news in January that Cook and Reid would be reuniting alongside costar Dawson, 44, at the weekend-long event. Although Dawson was unable to take the stage with her former castmates on Friday, she is slated to join the pair for group photographs and sign autographs for attendees. TheAhsokaactress is also slated to participate in aStar Warspanel alongsideHayden Christensenon Saturday.
Josie and the Pussycats, based on the Archie Comic series of the same name, debuted in 2001 to poor reviews and a dismal box office run. However, the campy flick has since become a cult classic in the years that followed.
The satirical musical comedy also starredAlan Cumming,Parker Posey, Gabriel Mann, Paulo Costanzo andMissi Pyle.
“If this movie came out now, it would have been huge,” Reid said during Friday’s panel. “But I really feel like this movie was ahead of its time.”
As the film’s 20th anniversary commenced in 2021, the main triostaged a virtual reunionto look back on the experience. “I’m thrilled that people have continued to watch our movie and that it’s only somehow gained steam over the years. That’s incredibly cool,” Cook said.
“Especially because I think it was way ahead of its time,” Dawson added. “You watch it now, and it so resonates with the moment that we’re in, but at the time, I think it was hard for people to totally appreciate the satire that it was.”
