Jonathan Van Nessis going for comedy gold on his on his 2019 stand-up comedy tour,Road to Beijing. And to prepare, he’s turning to one of figure skating’s most decorated champions:Michelle Kwan!

TheQueer Eyestar, 31, teamed up with Kwan, 38, for a hilarious new video to promote the LiveNation tour — whichkicks off Feb. 28 in Philadelphiaand will hit major cities across the U.S., including newly announced stops in Los Angeles (June 20), Phoenix (June 21), and Denver (June 23).

Working with Kwan — a two-time Olympic medalist, a five-time World champion and a nine-time U.S. champion — was a dream come true for Van Ness.

“I’ve idolized Michelle Kwan my entire life, and being able to get to know her through social media has been a pinch-me-is-this-real fever dream moment,” he tells PEOPLE. “She taught me how to be my own champion when I watched her skate when I was young, so to grow up to be friends with her is like, ‘Oh-my-gay-God-what-is-this?!’ "

Van Ness was inspired to launch his Road to Beijing tour after falling in love with live performance.

“My brain waves function differently onstage,” Van Ness says. “I’m at my funniest onstage, and I’m connected to another part of me. It’s really thrilling for me and hopefully it will be for you too!”

Of course, stand-up comes with its own challenges, particularly finding the life/work balance. “I love entertaining and I’m so excited about it, but finding the balance of my love of entertaining with my life is the hardest part,” he says. “Not that I’m complaining, because I totally love it so much!”

So what can fans expect from the show? Van Ness explains: “You’re going to get to see a much more full comedic onion of my personality; somecirque du so gay, some on ice moments, some yoga moments, honey, and there will also always be two other gorgeous, hilarious comedians bringing their sensibilities to the stage as well.”

Tickets for Van Ness' Road to Beijing tour are nowon sale.

In addition to the aforementioned dates, stops included Baltimore (March 2), Munhall, Pennsylvania (April 11), Cleveland (April 13), Chicago, June 8), and Indianapolis (June 9).

The Emmy nominee will also be performing at New York City’s iconic Radio City Music Hall on April 12.
